Content is still king

This article outlines how simple psychology helps increase brand engagement

Overall, the key takeaway is that Content is still king online a few of my favorite ways to tailor content are below:

  1. Understanding your audience
Appeal to their ID. Above all, your audience has needs & desires. They need you to tell them certain things & want you to offer them something they’ll find “interesting, funny, insightful, nostalgic, shocking, amazing, or enlightening”.
  2. Offer tasks with a single, clear goal with a reward
Have a clear, single call-to-action. Less is more! Check out the examples in the article directly because the reward doesn’t even need to be for the user themselves. Get creative.

  3. Build relationships with your users
Like personal relationships, people are more likely to recommend and engage with a brand they identify with. There are a few ways to do this but I prefer proactive conversation between a brand and its audience. Hiring conversational style social & community managers has proven priceless for my previous ventures.

  4. Context is important. Know your platform’s best practices
Look at how your content looks on different devices and social networks. Whether your content is being viewed on mobile or web, Twitter vs Facebook vs Instagram means you need to word descriptions, tags & mentions of other profiles for that platform. Facebook users don’t like #hashtags or @mentions and Twitter users need to see more descriptive summary to bother clicking on your photo. Tumblr has it own tagging structure best practices as well.
