This is my favorite feature of the Android platform

Posted on January 23 2013 by alishaoutridge

The native share feature of the Android platform is fantastic because:

  1. Future-proof : any apps that I install to my phone which enable me to share will automatically display in this list

  2. Not app-dependent: I want app developers to focus on building a great app in their niche not keeping up with what social networks every possible user might want to use. I happen to share often whether it is by text, email, Facebook, Twitter, Hootsuite, Tumblr, Instagram, whatever. All mobile platforms should handle this for the developer to make me happy as a user.

  3. Direct and simple design.

That said, I would love for the share option list to be sorted by frequency instead of alphabetical order so that I don’t have to scroll down to “Facebook” if I decide I don’t want to use “Hootsuite” because that app doesn’t support Facebook Link Previews yet if you share on mobile.

However, this is one of the reasons I switched from Apple to Android. When I was an iPhone user I was stuck with whatever App was available. As an Android user, the platform works on its own to satisfy my needs so Hootsuite can take their time making this update without impacting me.
